Now in its third year with us, Las Mazatecas is a coffee that celebrates both place and people. Produced by women from eight indigenous Mazateca communities in Oaxaca’s Sierra de Flores Magón, this washed coffee brings together nanolots that reflect the region’s rich biodiversity and deep-rooted traditions.

The Mazateca mountain range, towering above 2,000 MASL, takes its name from the Mazatec people, who have cultivated these lands for generations. Here, coffee is grown under agroforestry systems - intercropped with native trees and plants - and farmed without the use of chemicals, in line with ancestral practices that honour the land.

What makes this lot even more special is its social impact. 100% of the producers speak the indigenous Mazatec language, and this coffee is blended exclusively from the harvests of women producers. Through Ensambles’ regional operation in La Mazateca, coffee is purchased directly from these women in parchment, with feedback and technical assistance provided in the field. Crucially, payment is made directly to the women, ensuring they have full agency over their earnings and the decisions that shape their futures.

Las Mazatecas is more than a coffee - it is a tribute to resilience, heritage, and the women whose work sustains one of Mexico’s most unique coffee origins.

Why we love it:

Sourced directly from women producers across eight Mazatec communities, this lot supports indigenous-led, chemical-free farming rooted in ancestral practices - with full payment and decision-making power in the hands of the growers.
